Truthfully, your best bet is to bring some of your "softcore" friends along with you...and stay out of the public eye. It's hard to survive alone around here.

Sorc (blizzard or ice blast) is easily the most powerful and safest character you can start with w/o the best gear

Great killling speed with bad gear (bec of cold mastery)

easy to mf (teleport + boss kill speed)

easily geared to tank any tppk attempt with cheap gear and still be effective against monster (using common uniques)

jav zons are xtremly cheap and pretty tuff most expensive thing you need is infinity for your merc can walk through hell chaos with cracked jav's if you dont have any other gear
