In my eye's this is better shield than your so called "Ed shield" ...
What exactly do you mean by that anyway, a 4 socked shield with 40ed-15ias x 4?

svs = smite vs smite,
your shield is one of the best "smiter" shields allround maybe, but svs not really =)
i think he simply meant that he expected a shield, on which u find ED instead of resistance, which
actually makes more sense than resi =)
and yes, ED and AR are possible mods on white paladin shields ...
sorry for spam :)
