I understand where you are coming from but, in an auction i think its best to state that you have the right to not sell the items if you think the bids are unreasonable. I would just sell it to him.

this is the stance i take as well. if you dont have that rider in your thread and you decide to auction something, you are taking a chance at not getting the price you want. that is the bottom line.
