pm trading is not supported, but he wasn't looking to make a pm trade.
he was looking to discuss the rates through pm, and then i assume that once you guys had reached an agreement you would both post here what the trade was for.
that is a totally supported trading method, and if you were worried about him trying to scam you through a pm trade, you could easily use the mediators to perform the trade.
