okay trying to figure out some mechanics for novas since i never messed with them in original hg:l

1 gun that shoots 10 dmg bullets with a 2m splash radius
10% chance to cast nova on hitting an enemy
3 mobs on top of each other

if i shoot 1 bullet and it hits all 3 mobs what happens?

-1 bullet hits 3 mobs and the main mob "hit" has the 10% nova proc
-1 bullet hits 3 mobs and 0 or 3 novas occur since on hit is calculated on the bullet
-1 bullet hits 3 mobs and 0-3 novas occur since on hit is calculated on each monster affected by that splash

i'm assuming its the first one but it's always worth it to check

I'm 99% Sure that the nova will only trigger on the mob hit by the bullet, not the ones that receive splash damage.

"-1 bullet hits 3 mobs and 0 or 3 novas occur since on hit is calculated on the bullet"

This is why Ricochet/Ravager Rounds are so good.

1 Bullet cannot hit 3 mobs. It will hit one mob and deal splash damage to the others. Novas will only be calculated on the target hit by the bullet.

Ravager Rounds can retarget and hit a second mob, or richochet and hit a mob then retarget etc, so it is possible to hit 3 mobs and each time a on hit nova check would be calculated, but you are right about the splash damage bit.

Thank you that is what I thought and I just needed confirmation.

NEXT QUESTION:

on hit procs off of the enemy (novas, discharges, etc) are definitely based off of the mod level but a couple people have been saying that mods coming off the player themselves (bolts/rebounders/shrapnel or maybe just shrapnel) are actually clvl based. I will try to test this but with guardians it might just get messed up since thorn bolters are 600rpm and vorpals are 400.

I take it you're the person I'm talking to about that very subject on the official forums?

If there were a single player client it'd be easy to test, but with the game being online only there are a few difficulties to overcome.

i think we can just discuss this between the two of us across multiple forums since getting outside information isn't as fruitful as i'd hope.

I guess the best way of doing it would be a thorn bolter at 50 with +1% shrapnel on hit and a ripper at 50 with 1%. it might work to test in pvp but the dr% is so huge you might not even notice it. if there is any noticeable difference between the two procs then it's ilvl.

That'd probably be the best way to test it out, or just hope someone at T3 can answer the question.
Might also be worth using a vorpal slasher with a level 31 mod and a vorpal ripper with whatever the highest level mod it can use, so RPM stays constant.
