Dude, those look GREAT for low levels, the rifle is impressive. I'd up the rifle as you go leveling. the Sword is sick too, lvl 3 required. Ignite = your best friend, for any class IMO, but there's phase too, if you phase an enemy you do 50% more damage, while Ignite makes the enemy lose 5% health/sec. Just for comparison, Ignite MM are considered HG:L's hammerdin lol.

Upgrading would be the npc "nano forge" correct? What about the other upgrading npc thingies?

Yup, nanoforge upgrades your weapon, but I'm really not sure if it adds damage...
The nanoforge requires nanoshards along with the other scrap materials (do you dismantle items when they are useless? That's the best way to get Scrap Materials, and nanoshards as well. Nanoshards can also be farmed at the bosses that you farm heads on Stonehenge)
The Augmentrex: Adds a property on the weapon of choice, it costs palladium to add a property to your weapons. But, the only property that's really good and worth it are the legendary ones (wich costs a LOT)
The Delux Demodificator removes any Relic/Battery/Fuel/Ammo/Rocket you put on a weapon slot (just like Sockets on D2, but in HG:L you can remove them AND get them back using the demodificator)

Yeah, pick everything from green (rare) to yellow (uniques) and dismantle every and single thing you don't need/use/is crap! If you get enough you can sell them to people or vendor it. I got around 3,000 Scrap materials, and the vendor pays me around 15,000 palladium lol xD

Having difficulty understanding where to get nano shards

break apart items u find, they'll eventually yield a nano shards, a legendar will automatically yield one nano shards

if it's low lvl stuff i don't recomended u upgrading it, keep it to make new char... falchion of the fiend is a legendary boss (i consider them unique)

nano forge does increae damage =D


and no, legendaries dont automatically give a nano shard when dismantled, just a higher chance.

gz, u had pretty ok luck for getting thouse 2 rather nice legendaries
i give special love to the sword since i love ignite use that sword always for new templars
