What i dont get is you keep saying will i lose out by playing single player??? if you buy the game then you play online, if not then just get a dodgy dowload and play single player.

Just miss out on questing with mates and lvling up etc

don't download a copy, main reason is you will not get it patched.

you could put your mates copy on your pc then log onto his account and download the patch, from what I've read you will definately need the single player latest patches.

I actually returned to d2, and a week later got HGL from a friend. HGL took over and I don't play d2 anymore. At the very least, you can use HGL to fun your d2 projects because the in-game money actually counts for something.
