you often hear complaints from people that don't have the pc power to run the game smoothly.

I don't often play but being a sub makes little differance except for the increased stash size really.

I'm a sub for a while now and I really like most of the stuff you get. Stonehenge content is awesome and yes you can level pretty fast there. Sub only items are nice, but not better than non sub stuff (except some). Extended stash makes you mule less often and the cube allows you to carry more stuff while in battle.
If you like the game and if you want to see some more content or need a new challenge: subscribe. You can do fine without subscription, but its more fun with. Though its not really worth the ten bucks right now, it'll be with 2.0.
