As an easy starting character, I'd probably suggest sword Guardian (as they're almost unkillable if you're doing them properly) or Marksman. While I've tried most of the others and enjoyed them, the problem with others is that it's much harder to get started. Additionally, starting out, I'd probably try the Test Server, not one of the others... not only do you see the patches a bit earlier, but they turned off the character wiping, so there's actually a point in playing there. Besides keeping your characters there, additional bonuses include double exp and a skill retrainer every time you log in (after creation) if you don't have one already, and there's room in your inventory. Makes it a lot easier to test things out. Just remember there's no attribute trainer items yet, so be careful in how you assign those... if your class has a skill that lowers feed cost on a stat, don't put a single point into that stat you don't need to AFTER the skill is maxed...
