So, I've punished myself for a couple years and never got a 3ds. I wanted to wait for the next one to come out and it finally is.

That being, I need some help deciding on some games. I'll probably only get 2-3 to start with and a couple a few months down the road.

Absolutely, without a doubt I'm getting Pokemon X or Y (leaning towards X)

The next two I'm leaning towards:
Smash Bro and MH4U
I've never played any of the MH games, but I never stop getting recommendations about how amazing it is. And I've only played Brawl on the Wii, but had a fun time regardless.

What I really look for in games are replay value. I don't appreciate games that have a 8-12 hour storyline and then no point in playing after that.
Does Smash Bro give you that? Is online play where it needs to be? Can it also be good SP playing vs bot(s)?

Some other games I may be counseled towards:
Fire Emblem Awakening (I played FE on the GBA and had a great time developing my teams and the overall strategy of it, should I get this if a new FE is coming out?)
Fantasy Life (Seems alright, maybe a bit childish for my taste, but I used to play Runescape back in the day. So, if this is comparable, maybe...)
Bravery Default (Was never too big on Final Fantasy, but it's gotten such high praise I feel I must put this on the list of possible contenders)
PKMN GreekLetter PreciousGem (Has enough really changed since the originals that this is worth $40?)
Majora's Mask (New Zelda, I've only ever played a little bit at a xmas party on the n64 when I was a kid. Are these actually good games? Replay potential)
STEAM (I know nothing about this but Lincoln and March release date)

Please share you opinions and expertise.

Tl:dr
1: Pkmn X
2: MH4U or SmashBro
3: MH4U or SmashBro or FE Awaken/New or Fantasy Life
4: MH4U or SmashBro or FE Awaken/New or Fantasy Life or MajoraMask or STEAM or PKMN AlphaOmega RubySapphire or Bravery Default

Must have games. Ocarina of time , mario kart 7 , super smash , majora mask 3ds , mario 3d land , heard great news bout fantasy life , bravely default looks cool if ur into rpgs.

Paper mario sucks... litellary was the worst piece of crap ever put on the market... and im not one to bash paper mario series... but this one trust me skip it

my friend bought it on special at target for 10$... he played 40 minutes and stopped the game is so much crap...

you have to get stickers to use them as your attacks , You cant jump , use hammer , use your partners , no xp at end of battles... so basically you dont feel rewarded for bothering to do fights , no partners to rely on to during a fight. which is a huge downer. no xp so no points in doing fights except for bosses...

and to advance in the story you have to find some random stickers that are hidden scattered around the dungeon and they wont give you any sort of hints ...

I plan on getting MH4U day one. If you are more of a veteran RPG player then you shouldn't really have problems with Monster Hunter until you get the idea of what the game is about. Especially helps if you have someone else to play with like a friend even though 4U has online now.

Bravely Default was alright in my opinion. I haven't finished it yet and it's been months since i've had it.

Fantasy Life for being on 3DS is quite impressive. Great amount of content. It has more of a childish atmosphere, but the combat near/end game isn't exactly forgiving although combat is quite simple. Aside from MH3U it's the only other 3DS game i've greatly enjoyed (aside from the boring storyline dialogue). 140 hours in and still haven't "completed" it. I recommend getting Origin Island DLC if you do pick this up.

Don't think I'll pick up Majora's Mask day one, but I do plan on picking it up soon after launch. I loved it on N64.

If you plan on getting digital versions then I advise getting a new MicroSD card to swap it out the stock one.

Mario Kart 7 and Smash Bros guarantee many hours of gameplay because there's tons of things to unlock and playing online is fun. Personally I prefer MK7 over Smash.

Zelda games (OoT, LBW and the upcoming MM) don't really have an immediate replay value imo (at least for me, they are games that once you beat them you don't play them again until 2-3 years have passed), but they are very good. Majora's Mask does take a long time to complete 100% though, because there are a ton of sidequests and some of them are very hard (especially the minigames).

As for the Mario games, Mario 3D Land is one of my favourite games in the franchise, but it doesn't have a great replay value imo.

Donkey Kong Country Returns is one of my favourite games on the 3DS. Fun to play, pretty hard and if you want to complete the game by trying to beat all of the time races you will be spendng many hours on this.

Fire Emblem Awakening was fantastic 100% worth getting
Monster Hunter series is very fun so I'd say yes get MH4U
the 3rd gen remakes for pokemon are VERY GOOD as well, I really liked how they changed and improved it compared to the originals

mh4u is all you will need and all you will play once you get hooked.
I've spent around 600 hours in mh3u and looking for another 600 more in 4g
