Was looking into the 3DS for my next "major" purchase. (other things I was looking at are a Kindle HD Fire, Kinect, Shotgun, or a netbook)

I already have a Xbox 360 and a crappy little Desktop, but I want something for on the go. I go away to my parents farm about once a month for a little less than a week and all they have there is a TV to use during down time. I also go out hunting and roughing it a bit and would like something to pass the time when I'm not busy with other things. I'll say this now though 90% of my year is inside my apartment. I don't leave very often even to do "normal" things like being outside for the hell of it so the majority of the time playing it will be sitting on the futon in front of a TV.

So I was mainly wondering:
Can the 3DS compete with games made for the console/PC?
Would you recommend a 3DS over a Kindle?
How many more years are left before the next model comes out(Will there be a new model)? 3DS > 3DS XL > ????
What games would you recommend for a console scrub that likes RPG/FPS games?

get a psp vita and buy soul sacrifice/killzone
or buy a 3ds and buy mario games

Sold it to buy a replacement for my broken Xbox.

Vita costs a little too much.

it's $199 and comes a bundled game and 4gb

Actually I would like Monster Hunter, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Zelda, Harvest Moon, Shin Megami Tensei, and many other low fame & name games.
