i have a vaporeon with ivs in 30 except hp and special def the hidden power calculater said this should be the type fire, but in a double battle with arcanine i used hidden power on him it wasnt very effective but it damaged him and he didn't get a fire boost. does hidden power not work for things like this?

Double check it on a grass type, if it's super effective then you have your answer.

Also, Arcanine doesn't always have that ability.

arcanines ability is flash fire/ intimidate mine has flash fire so it should of powered him up, thanks for posting i'll try it on a grass type.

IV's are a hard thing to calculate, but the easiest way to figure it out really is to try your HP on different things till you find out something its Super Effective against, then whatever you suspect your HP may be try it out on something else that it would be super effective against and see if it is...if so then you have your answer if not, then you're wrong but still one step better than before because if its super effective against the first type it can still only be one of the types that would have to be 2x effective toward it.

E.G. if you think its fire test it on both Grass & Bug? I think is pretty fucked up by fire?

If it super effectives both then your good to go.

In the older games, I believe it was the Diamond/Pearl/Platinum line.....there was a guy in one of the towns that was actually able to tell you what Hidden Power move you had.
