You should probably stick with the OU pokies if you are trying to compete in the OU environment. Though, there are UU pokemons that actually do work quite well even in OU (and sometimes UBER).
Have you been EV training them and breeding your pokemons for ivs (if you don't use AR or the R4 chip)? Could you also post what type of role they will be playing in your team or at least more descriptions for your pokemons (why you chose them, how they synergize with the other pokemons) a little more? So far...there are much to be changed in my honest opinion (no offense). Let me know :D

Untill I found this forum, I had no idea about EV's and diffrerent tiers, or how different pokemon go together. My first thought on teams is "ahh i need a flying water flying electr...etc. I did the elite 4 with Dialga lv 51 Staraptor lv. 50 Luxray lv. 51 Weavile lv. 51 Lucario lv. 52 and Empoleon lv. 51. With this team, I was going by Pokemon on smogon that were good offensively.

Oh I see.
I understand, it's actually a very confusing game lol...well I think so.
First of all if you are really going to fight competitively A LOT and actually don't mind about legitimacy (most people won't as long as they are within the legal boundaries), then you should go for the AR or the R4 chip.
After getting all perfect nature, ivs, evs (ev trained), and shiny if you care...you can then really make your "perfect" team.
For now...you should mainly play with OU pokemons only as they will be much easier for you to get some wins and once you get used to the competitive battling you should then start to use the gimmick sets and non-OU (not uber as people will hate you for using uber in non-uber battling most of the times).

For instance...let's see...you should use this thread as the reference for now: http://www.marriland.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=352099

Also, if you want some more experienced help and RMT suggestions tr yusing Smogon as these guys are very...VERY good at what they do. Just make sure you add a lot of descriptions and what not.
At last, it's not required but I suggest you play in Shoddy for a while and see what works and what not first. Shoddy will help tremendously imho :D

Well those were some of my "advice" lol
best luck

edit: oh and in-game...pretty much everything works

To be brutally honest, it's a pretty mediocre team. You just took the movesets straight off Smogon with no editing whatsoever, and you didn't look back.

That Gengar is only really used to maim it's common switch-ins, like Blissey and Scizor, which you can already handle. That Roserade should be used as a lead. Focus Sash is redundant on anywhere other than the leading position because it'll be taken out by Stealth Rock, rendering it useless. That Empoleon also needs a lot of team support to work, such as eliminating it's common counters so it can freely set up and sweep, which you don't do. The rest are okay, albeit standard.

All great sets, great pokemon, they do a great job... just kinda random. :| Roserade should be lead, you need a bit of team support to make the Empoleon work at all, and the rest are just attackers thrown together and hope it will work.
