Sword and shield/Great Sword would be my recommended starting weapons. After that, move on to different weapons and see what ya like.

For SnS to be effective, you have to in-fight, which is going to be very difficult for a first time player. Great sword, Hammer, or even Long Sword would be easier for a beginner to learn with imo.

LS is a little more difficult for beginners imo, I would definetly go for a wep the gives you the block option. GS is what I personally was comfortable with cuz I was able to block and it does a good amount of damage against those early Monsters you'll face.

I don't believe there is brofile, you gotta learn the Monster's attack moments and always stay a step ahead of them.

I know LS is kinda tough, I was just saying, imo, it'd be easier for a beginner to learn to kill monsters effectively with an LS than a SnS (hence the way I said "evenan LS"), since SnS can be a very difficult weapon to master since it requires a constant flow of it's 3 combo hits to be as effective as other weapons.

Plus, I don't care who you are with an LS, you're going to get hit because of it's attack locks. :p

I started myself off with a SnS because I usually enjoy underrated weapons, but I found myself hating single player because I just wasn't contributing as much as I should be, since I wasn't completely in fighting. I then switched to the Lance which wasn't completely terrible since I got a taste of in fighting from the SnS but was still a hard weapon to pick up at the level I was at.

Hammer's the second easiest weapon to just pick up imo. Just work those Super Pounds (lvl 3 charge not moving) in the beginning, and when you feel comfortable with a certain monster, practice your Spin Golf Swings as that's the most powerful hammer attack, but a bit tricky to get the timing down at first (To spin it's lvl 3 charge while moving, and I believe cancel after 2 spins for the golf swing). But if a monsters not moving (for whatever reason) and you're right there by it's head already, just work the 3 combo pounds. Also, avoid using the golf swing if a teammate is right where you plan on swinging.

As for iron, right now for you there should just be one in the cave, just walk around with a torch and you'll see it, they stand out from the wall like they don't belong. But soon they'll be everywhere.
