You should definitely get yourself a decent LR set, you don't REALLY get a decent set until you can do City Lv****** quests anyways... Barioth+, Agnak+, Diablos+, Vangis, Helios+, Yamato+, etc.
Just let me know your main weapon and your style and I'll gladly give you a few suggestions. 
But keep in mind, a huge impact on gear is your talisman, which'll provide you with the extra points necessary to combine different parts of 2 or more sets to get skills you want that aren't all on a single set. So for an even better suggestion, let me know the best of your available talismans. Nvm just got one.
For everyone else curious, to maximize plate chances, cap Lagia with Capture Expert and always break the horns. This'll end up giving you ~25% chance of it getting it.This post was edited by DeadlySanity on Dec 14 2010 04:15pm
