the problem is his lightning attack does 11 dmg so i'm thinking i need lots of damage reducers which are hard to find
Just use Power Plus, Damage Dodges / Defend Plus and Power Bounce. Get good at guarding, too. I can't remember PRECISELY what I used, but I know I used those. Also, Quick Change is almost essential for 10-HP playthroughs, same with powered-up partners. Since Mario is limited to 10-HP, you must rely on your Partners a lot more. Try to use Last Stand, Power Rush and Close Call, aswell.
