i wouldn't say they usually change it
example:
Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64
or look at game boy name only really changed once it hit DS
i really think its a combination of similar look/name/casual audience
i mean, nes/snes/n64 didnt really look the same at all, there were some pretty clear change between the consoles (also graphic wise)
whereas the wiiu, its about as powerful as current gens, looks the same as the wii except for the gamepad (and it still uses the wiimote, which adds to the confusion)
i just doubt the wiiu will ever sell well, cuz y'know, competition and stuff and it will still only have good 1st party game and crappy 3rd party games (ie: bad ports and no real multiplat)
tldr: nes/snes/n64/gamecube/wii had clear difference between each gens, wii/wiiu doesnt

i don't understand why people think this
it should be obvious it's a new console cause of the name difference even if only slightly different
because they only show the gamepad with the name wiiu on it, with some kind of console in the back that looks a lot like a wii
the console couldve been only the gamepad
im just not convinced at all about the wiiu being worth my money right now
