no study has shown this

better yet the american optometric association thinks it could help detect some anomalies

its not only reassuring but also encouraging imo

The American Optometric Association (AOA), representing America’s family eye doctors (optometrists), says 3D in movies, TV and even 3D on Nintendo's 3DS isn't necessarily bad for adults or children. In fact, optometrists, professional health care providers committed to children’s vision and eye health, say 3D viewing may actually help uncover subtle disorders that, left uncorrected, often result in learning difficulties.

little kids should stay away from the 3D mode basicaly because they might not be holding it right and might play while seeing double or blurry. My little cousins watched me play on 3D mode from a bad angle and didn't complain about it being blurry or whatever, if I had let them, they would have watched me play a long time and that would have messed up their eyes for sure. If they do watch/play it from a correct point of view, then there's no problem, but that's really hard to control.

I would think it varies from child to child.
My cousin played on my older comp that I had (This was like in 97/98, so pretty old comp) and she was fine but her sisters eyes got bloodshot in a little-to-no time (like 5 mins).
I think electronics, like anything, varies of how it affects people depending on the persons own body.

this is completely irrelevant

the only thing they'd get from holding it wrong would be a lesser gaming experience

Most 3-6 year olds don't value gaming experience, they just play regardless if it looks blurry or double. As long as they can see what's going on, they are ok with it. And watching blurry/doubled images for a long amount of time causes eye strain, not just on the 3DS, and not just to little kids.

edit: so ive been playing sideways to have the 3d blurred for the last 10 minutes and besides being fucking annoying it didnt feel like it was making a difference, ofc its not a very long lapse of time but it was too annoying
