is there a way to play these games other than on the 3ds?

No, the engine is different to the normal DS, so emulating will require some time to sort out, and will be buggy for years after release most likely.

Agreed, and the fact that they are backwards compatible with regular DS games increases that library. You can play SoulSilver/HeartGold, BW/BW2, Mario, New Donkey Kong Country 3D, Mario Kart 7, FFIV (amazing remaster from original..), Monster Hunter 3. The list goes on, there's a HUGE selection! I was hesitant to upgrade to a 3ds for a long time myself, but when I finally made the plunge it was worth every penny! I use it nearly every day, and since me and my wife have a Netflix account, I can watch Netflix from it too while I'm at work! Only on lunches of course

sell 3ds + pokemon on eb4y for 60-75% of what its worth at that time brand new assuming you kept yours in good condition.

You guys are crazy, the 3ds has a crappy selection lol
That being said, i own 3 systems and 3 different XY games all to collect more than 1 each event giveaway. So, pokemon games are highly worth it alone imo. There is also Zelda. You can also play any ds games on it, not just 3ds
