IGN has some speculation, and ironically the ones they call least feasible (IE dropping 3D all together, or adding a second analog stick) seem to be getting the most hits.

I would prefer if it was some new games, for obvious reasons, and leaving the 3D option to the developers.

they cant throw in a second analog now because it will divide their 3ds fanbase in half and cause a shit tonne of rage from loyals..they wont drop 3d because its already in and works well

Attaching to the side would become uncomfortable IMO, it'd be a hard design to pull off. Also I am not entirely sure as I am not an electrical engineer but wouldn't their be a lot of issues with the hardware?
