I mean I’ll start with the low hanging fruit; horizon has a great story and elden ring has none whatsoever. It’s also the best looking game ever made and it’s not close other than possibly rift apart but that’s limited by being cartoony, not that I put much stock in that but it’s worth mentioning
The combat is the best part about souls games imo, and elden ring still delivers on that. Personally I’m disappointed by them leaning more towards the slower souls style than the quicker bloodborne, but it’s still good. With that being said, the combat in horizon is also exceptional. I’d probably give the slight edge to elden ring but the gap isn’t nearly as wide as I’m sure the people who get mad about this post will try to say it is. Elden ring wins in enemy variety, but you never get tired of fighting any of the machines in horizon and they’re all designed well
The setting of horizon is more interesting than elden ring’s, and the way that more information about the world is woven into the story works very well. In elden ring any information about the setting is obscure enough that you will never come across it naturally, and is incredibly shallow
The weakest part of horizon is the characters and they still range from okay-good, but again the npcs in elden ring might as well be nothing. Calling them characters is a stretch
Side quests in horizon are very well done. I did almost all of them in the game and almost none of them felt tedious or repetitive. In elden ring if you come across and complete them naturally they’re okay (but again, shallow), however it’s rare for this to happen. If you try to do side quests you either have to look them up or it’s an incredible chore
Tl;dr
Horizon has better story, setting, visuals, side content, and characters
Elden ring has better combat (slightly) and enemy variety
Ok, I'll try an explanation now, although my English is really very modest....
I understand what you mean, but I personally just put other things in the foreground or have different views on what is good and what is bad in a game.
First and foremost for me is always the gameplay combined with the highest possible difficulty, discovering new things, a varied enemy design and the atmosphere.
The graphics play a subordinate role.
And just the fact that Elden Ring doesn't take you by the hand and leaves a lot in the dark is a positive challenge for me and makes it more appealing than games that tell you everything. I want to unravel things myself and not have the game unravel them. I just need that challenge.
All of that makes Elden Ring unique to me and not so ordinary.
There are just a lot of other game series that are similar to Horizon. For me, those games are too casual and that's why I lose interest very often and very quickly. Assasins Creed, for example, is also one of those kinds of games.
So I think we have different preferences, but I think there are still a lot of gamers like me.
I am sorry if I have expressed myself badly in some places.
