I have a friend whose PS3 gives sound, but no video. There must be something wrong with the HDMI port.

I've never worked on a PS3. Can I replace the HDMI port myself, or should I bring it in somewhere? If I bring it in, where should I go?

First thing would be to try a second hdmi cord. Iv had them crap out a few times swapping from my PC to my ps4. My tv only has 2 hdmi ports and I keep the cable box in all the time. Hope it's that simple! Goodluck

1st make sure its not the tv port ive seen people with loose tv ports blame the console
also make sure its set to display in a setting his tv can show if its 1080p and your playing it on a 720p black screen will happen same if you go from HD to SD
if its anything within the 2nd line go look up how to reset the setting to default with the power button for your ps3 and do it it will reset the resolution allowing you to see

He's tried it on several TVs and still the same result. I guess the settings could be off on both though.

I'll try a new HDMI cable and see if I might be able to replace the port.
