with the powerbrick being built in and it (the ps4) being such a tight, little machine, does the ps4 have overheating/cooling issues at all??

I wouldn't call it issues as if there is a design flaw but like any machine I am sure it wouldn't do well in a tight space or on shag carpet.

i feel like the xbone has better breathing / ventilation potential, though.

Considering all things, yes, the Xbox One has better "breathing potential" and the ugly as sin guts prove it.
