so ive got this old school 40 gig ps3 here
bought ff10 HD and it takes up 23 gigs of room. but of course to download it you need to download the installer + game which comes out to ~46 gigs total.

now if i download it on my friends ps3 then data transfer it over to the 40 gig will it work?

does it transfer EVERYTHING from his ps3 to the one i have? or just some things i can select

You always need double. So no, that will not work.

You can get a 320gb 2.5" HD for as low as $50 and it's super easy to swap. Might be something to consider.

its only going to be used for ff10 HD

its most likely never going to be touched again (except for maybe demon souls after)

Go to a local factory direct type store and maybe try and pick up a refurb 80gb drive. I would imagine it to cost around $20-$25.
