i do not see an online option where do i go to access the online game mode?

just searched fifa 14 menu on youtube watched about 45 secs
im assuming you go to play tab --> more --> match lobbies
maybe head to head.. idk if thats online or like 2 ppl vs on your console

If you want ranked matches you need to start a season. every season has 10 games , and you get ranked with 10 divisons.
Have fun ! ( you can change your team after each game )
