When i'm backing up saved game data (save points, not game itself), each time i do this, do i need to delete the old data first, or will the process just over-write the old saved data with new saved data? ty guys!! oh forgot to mention on a USB stick, not cloud

You don’t need to delete anything, it just keeps the most up to date version of whatever save you’re uploading

Idk about usb but that’s how it works on the cloud

Usb memory stick / ps+ cloud is all the same
It just overwrites your saves to the most current youre uploading
Speaking of back ups
Depending what games you play, its not a bad idea to back up your saves regularly, especially games that update frequently

I recently lost my ps4 minecraft survival world to corruption from a ‘bug fix update’, and my 2000 hour world with a ton of builds and every single item in the game collected and at my disposal, stopped working
I had a previous save to the cloud i had to revert back to, but it was almost a year old from when i last did a back up
Needless to say i lost alot of my more previous work

I had to delete my corrupted world before i could play a redownloaded save file
At first i tried to just overwrite my main world with my backed up save but it was still reading as corrupted and crashed the game
Then i deleted my world, redownloaded my back up save file and it worked again, now i backup after every play session
