ive enjoyed many atlus games over the years just never really played smt games, but d3 can legitmately fit into many genres action, hack&slash, mmo among others, its really a grey area single player, co-op, online , whatever although you dont have 100 people in a single game you dont have to play with the same 4 people over and over

there is literally nothing about diablo 3 that is massive, so no it cannot be called an mmorpg

mmorpg are usually on open world with thousands of players at a time
diablo is nothing near an mmorpg with its 4 player games
