It's the most played game every year lol. It's obviously doing a lot of things right.



Cod came out of nowhere in 2007 and became a smash hit. It didn't have a "name" yet quickly became the most played console game. Bad games that the community universally hates don't do that.

The objectives require the same level of strategy as the objectives in BF3. You do know that the non-shooter community sees both BF3 and MW3 as a group of "Bros" right?

BF3 was ezmode. I never got into a BF game but when I bought BC2 I was easily near the top or at the top every game. BF3 is almost a completely casual community. Proof = tiny competitive community, no-show at tournaments.

Stay free in your more-mainstream-than-you'll-admit game.

Truth
We don't buy bf3 because of the name. We look at the content and features of the game. The name Battlefield only ensures us that the game is going to be great because of its great reputation. Battlefield has kicked ass every single time it came out. Bf 1942 was revolutionary.

reputation = a whole new system cod4 brought
killstreaks
perks
attachment system

and thats how it got on the map as THE shooter to play
so it became the standard

so as the standard comes out with new versions every year it was the standard thing to have up to date


like an iphone for example

cod4 was the start of it
yes it was a good game
but this whole convo was about mw3
and the root of mw3 sales is how cod4 was the new innovation of shooting games

mw3 would not have made this many sales without the reputation of cod4

just ask yourself this


if cod4-black ops never came out
then mw3 came out recently
do you think it would have this many sales?


its the word of mouth/reputation/name that gets mw3 sales

you can even read reviews
they even say mw3 is what mw2 should have been

your cod fanbase doesnt even acknowledge it as a new good game
just as a game the previous should have been

1) cod came out late 90s/early 2000s. They were always fun games. Cod finest hour was great. People bought mw1 because it was the first high def/next gen cod
2) if you remember cod didn't sell as good when it first hit the stores, it sold by word of mouth. Then the next year mw2 came out and it sold purely on hype. Although I gotta say mw2 was the best cod to date it wasn't nearly as good as bc2

because people didnt even know what bf was
but when they showed the new innovations of jets on next gen console
it was something new that people havent seen before and that put it on the map

if you were to go around and talk about bf when bfbc2 came out
they wouldnt know what you were talking about

and the older bfs were just on pc
