you can always re download downloaded games so I would assume you're referring to your save data
I haven't upgraded my HDD in my ps4 as of yet but wouldn't it be the same as ps3?
doing a back up and restore

no lol literally games everything i own is digital and i dont wanna d/l 750gn of games again

Update system hardware directly from playstation website via thumb drive. Use backup function. Swap hdds. Update new hdd with same thumbdrive. Restore backup. Profit.

if he has psn plus he can use cloud save

I would still recommend a backup.

Also cloud save is only so big and is not fool proof anyways.
