Game is not for everyone, it feels like a old school RPG like Chrono trigger/final fantasy 3 etc.. It even has a pokemon aspect kinda going with the collecting of monsters and using them for your party
Im about 3 hours in, but im loving it
Doesn't feel similar to any of those imo. much closer to dragon quest or some pokemon hybrid.
While I was happy to finally see a new release jrpg on ps3, there's just so many little nitpicks I have about this game, n2m the repetitive battle system where it just feels like I'm jamming X all the time.
Even though it -is- Studio Ghibli, I really wish they wouldn't hold your goddamn hand so much. Can't walk up to a guy, press [_], open spell menu, use Take Heart or Give Heart, you gotta talk to them, jam X through 8-10 lines of dialogue where you ever so kindly ask permission, and they ever so kindly grant it, then have the window auto pop up, and you get to finally do whatever. I feel like it could've been so much more streamlined & interactive than jamming through dialogue to get everywhere. GhibliZelda would've been awesome.
RNG taming is kinda balls. I wouldn't mind a little old fashioned grind if the battle system didn't feel so crippled.
All in all it is a beautiful fuckin' game though.
