COD4 didn't have a lot of publicity and it was a tournament staple so don't give me that.

bf2 had a massive following and competitive community. yes no BF game since then has had one, but neither has COD since cod4. and for cod4 to be competitive they had to mod the shit out of it to balance it.
Where? When I played CS there was a separate league for BF2 that had like 5 teams registered LOL. COD has been a main MLG game. I'd say that counts.
