both it doesn't matter, whatever you get in multiplayer carries over into your single player score aswell
so if you got 500 headshots in multiplayer, you can get 500 more in single player or vice versa

the maps are free, yes
soon as you load the game up it'll tell you to install the updates go to the live area screen

ive only seen blood gulch or whatever so far... cant find the other yet
