I'm quite certain I heard there is no way to interact with other players, only the discoveries and names and such that they do will cause any change to your game at all, and even if two people are on the same planet the mining of one player does not show in the other's perspective

tl;dr: no multiplayer at all

They released multiple statements that it is one player and in no way was ever meant to be an mmo

i think it is multiplayer but its so largescale its very unlikely to run into another player
