Any word on what the best PVE build is or some good options?
I like magic weapon builds with big emphasis on magic spells for dmg.
Thanks to anyone of offers their opinion!
Well im on ng++ and so far, out of all my tests ive done including weapons/armor/rings etc, my most effective build has been my strength build with fume ugs. At 50 str/10 dex base requirement and +5, the damage was like 704, and this thing can be buffed. With lightning blade buff, im sitting at 841 a swing. I wrecked every boss with no deaths, albeit the weapon doesnt make the player, skill does, but this thing gives you a big edge. The only downside to this thing, and with any other sword in its class, is the massive amounts of stamina you need to put out 3 swings.
Since you like magic builds, i can tell you ds3 did not do you any favors, int scales horrible, until you hit 50 int, then your damage picks up. But even crystal soul spear does like 700ish damage, which is a far cry from what it used to be in ds2 pre nerf. Theres no stand out catalyst really, all seem to be around the same. If you like spells, pyro as of now seems to be the best damage wise, as you get access to better spells earlier on, and you find the pyromancy teacher earlier on than the sorcery teacher. Even with wearing rings that greatly boost sorcery/pyromancy/miracles, it gets outclassed by melee. Also this game has more of an upbeat tempo, where enemies seem quicker than previous souls games, meaning they can and will close the gap on you. And a major disadvantage towards casters is you cant roll cancel a spell once you initiated it, and enemies seem to hit more like trucks in this game than ds2. Also, i dislike tremendously the reintroduction of a mana bar, instead of spell casts, which now forces you to split up your estus flasks and split it with your ashen flasks. Super put off by that.
If youre keen on using spells, miracles are probably better all around because of their utility. Heal/buff/damage spells, and lightning seems to be strong against most enemies and bosses, excluding dragonslayer armor and the nameless king who are resistant. A str/faith hybrid will serve you well.
