Yeah first Shenmue came out in 99 and second in 2001 since then players are waiting SHenmue3 and now is in making. Its one of best games i ever played.

i hope if this does well they'll remake the first 2 since they're so old and it could be good for those that want to follow the whole story

i'd imagine after as S3 would likely gauge if it's worth remaking them
cause this sounds interesting and I'd love to be able to play the first 2 as well

Lol you are wrong, what is 4 mil compared to like 50-70m which was budget for first two parts seperatly. So that kickstarter thing is as guy above said just a thing so they can be sure that there are alot players, fans etc.more than to get money.

lolhuh? you think paying to show that there's interest in a game b4 it's even made is okay? soooo, according to you this was nothing more than a paid polling of sorts, right? there are other viable methods for gathering popular opinion, especially in the video gaming world. so now people are expected to fork over money to show a big publisher that there's interest in the game? that's fucked up logic, and i want nothing to do with that model, ever.
feel free to waste your cash, though.

they're both investing and paying for the game, that is the concept of everything that ever appears for crowdfunding
another good thing about kickstarter it does give them easy access to communicating with the interested fans and in cases the feedback they can get from those fans can help develop the game (Mighty No 9 being an example of this)
by having pledged for a tier you can also keep informed of any updates or information they post to keep you informed of what's going on in the project and if there is anything you can do to help

plus kickstarter can end up very rewarding at times for backers (one of college teachers was telling us about a book he backed, he backed it simply to receive a soft cover, the kickstarter made so much money that he ended up with a leather bound copy instead of a simple soft cover)

and 1 project I backed a couple months back I'm getting more than what I originally pledged for as well

i realize kickstarter has its perks, why else would people give their hard earned money to fund a pseudo-promise?
the reality is people can just as easily lose the money that they pledged if the game never comes to fruition. it's happened a bunch of times.
it's a gamble and for sony to openly advocate on behalf of that gamble is weird and distasteful. imo.
but whatever, i don't even think this game will be any good (from my perspective). the majority of simulator style games are str8 garbage (imo ofc). that's if it even gets made. don't be surprised if it doesn't come out for another 8 years. you could be dead by the time it comes out, and then what? how significant was your pledge then? you didn't even get to enjoy the game, you just forked out money for an vacant promise that can be either broker of fulfilled at any point in the distant future.
kickstarter is for small companies who legitimately need the funds to get their wheels rolling, not this. sony was going to back them regardless.
it's an inherently flawed concept and i don;t know why ppl support these kinds of things. i mean, i know why, i just don't agree with it in the slightest.

The big kickstarter projects as of lately like Bloodstained, Yooka Laylee, MN9, and now Shenmue 3 have a sense of trust by the developers for a polished quality product if that makes any sense to you. No different from preordering a video game from the way I see it. Besides I highly doubt Sony wouldnt push them to release this game in a timely manner sibce they are doing most of the funding.

Tbh they took advantage of kickstarter to guage the audience without any loss in capital. Kind of under handed if you ask me.

Yeah definitley, but if this is what it takes for more games awaiting sequels like this to be made then I say go ahead.
