so i got some cash and im looking to buy a 32" inch htdv LCD for my dorm.

i got 2 questions:

1) is there really a big difference from 720p to 1080p?
2) do name brands really matter when buying a tv? Like for example, DYNEX or Vizio or some shit brand that no1 ever heard of, i mean they are still tv's and they still work...
Im still playing on my 15" TOSHIBA tube tv that i got 8 years ago, when TOSHIBA was a shit brand and no1 heard of it.. now its pretty well known.

is it worth a few more bucks to get a sony, sharp, samsung, etc ??

1) No
2) Stay away from Toshiba. They are only good if you're going big. DYNEX is a pretty good brand for cheap if you are looking for simple gaming.

I actually have a 32" Dynex 720p. It cost about $325 at Best Buy a couple months ago. It works perfect.

Dude who works at walmart is full of shit imo.

Bought a vizio 37" and its doing just fine (1080P for 680 W/ 2 year extended warranty FYI) I've owned it for..like....a good 5+ months now still no problems at all =\

and absolutely love it for gaming.

Brands mean little as long as you aren't going super off the fucking beaten path.

even specs don't mean shit past a certain point like people who pay for Sony 240mhz tv sets and shit don't even get use of those specs because shadowing is prevented by even 120hz (what most hdtvs are) you aren't going to see any real noticeable difference in picture quality at this juncture from buying a super high end tv that shows aren't even being broadcast in to get the use out of those utterly unneeded specs.

I did go 1080P for a little bit of "Future Proofing" so to speak but I didn't go and buy a super expensive 3000$ television because it was entirely unnecessary.

I would feel like a waste putting hundreds of dollars into a TV thats 720p and not huge in the year 2010. 3D TV's are coming soon, LED is becoming mainstream, 1080p being used more... etc.

you prob wont notice diff unless you're used to playing on 1080p already
if you were looking at a tv 40+inch i would def say get the 1080
but then again 720 is a dying breed in the tv world

parents have a huge sony bravia 1080p and it makes the theater movies look like shit just a fyi

fyi I said I saw a lot of them returned, I didn't say they were all bad. Also I go by personal experience because I don't use my tv just for console gaming I also use mine as a pc monitor so I go for the best screen wise and I just have not seen a good track record for vizio compared to sony or samsung.

I've yet to try hooking my PC up to my vizio as a monitor =\ I should but really I've never bothered to find out what I need to do so.
