Common misconception. It can mean as little as getting dropped into a gang or being in a "battle".

Grew up around a lot of shady people...

It all depends on which gang/prison/state you are in on what the meaning is, I wouldn't say there is a overall meaning for it that fits for everywhere. There is one common denominator though, and that's not normal people get them.

Anything on the face kind of gets classified as a "gang" tattoo. No real normal person will get them. Assuming we are talking face tattoos.

Then there is some shit that just gets annexed like the Shamrock... Fucking AB stole that one...

That's true, although some girls find it "cute" to put stars and butterflies on there face/neck.

But then again, this is a tattoo KNOWN for gang affiliation, although they are not always bad people. Met some pretty cool guys with 505 with a zia symbol on there neck.



I can't find a picture of him, but the most prisoner they classify as the most dangerous in the santa fe penitentiary has devil horns tattooed on his head, not tiny little wimpy ones that you find on google they go from forehead to the back of the head. And then he's pretty much covered in swastikas.
