uchigatana or the other longer one is a relatively quick and light weapon, spear is another one.
the visually "big" weapons are generally heavier.
you can also do fist weapons haha, but those have a weird moveset/animation.

well uchi is my main goal for making my main weapon, but gotta get out of anor londo for that
i liked it in DeS so planned to go with it in DaS eventually

You've got to find a moveset you like. Stats are important but don't mean a lot when you're using attacks that don't fit your style. Demon great machete is a weapon I wish had different animations.

that's why my main goal is to get an uchi, but i don't have one yet :S

the uchigatana is back in the swamps/blight town though, that's way before anor londo.
or you can buy the other washing pole from shiva also in blighttown after you accept the covenant

well it may be before anor londo, but as far as i can tell i can't leave it yet

you can leave anor londo by going back up to the top area (where you were dropped off by the gargoyles after beating the iron giant)
and "fly" back to sen's fortress, then from there you know where to backtrack to get it.

starting to think i can't get to the npc i need so i can activate the npc with the uchi -.-

the uchi can only be bought from shiva or dropped from the undead merchant
you're thinking of the iaito, which isnt as good as the uchi imo

no i was thinking of shiva
but i need to join forest hunters, which is behind a locked door in darkroot and i didn't have 20k souls to get the item to open it
so i went and killed undead merchant instead cause he really isn't all that needed anymore
