I almost always play betas when available, and that's saved me from avoiding shit titles like Overwatch/BF1.
I haven't purchased many games lately, but as a small list of the bad ones I've bought in the past year or two or games I've put in less than 10 hours total on are the following.
Advanced Warfare - Should have known this would be complete ass, at least Bo3 was a little better. Did not buy the newest one and will not be buying it.
Evolve - Friends talked me into buying it
Master Chief Collection - I didn't think it was possible to fuck up this bad on a fucking remake
Final Fantasy 15 - Another game made for people who like games where they can't die and there's not a single challenge.... pretty much the opposite of why I loved FF games as kid.
Witcher 3 - I know this is an unpopular opinion. I just thought it was boring. Boring combat, incredibly easy. Probably would have liked it more if I put more time into it. I'm still considering fucking with it again.
Dying Light - Took me 6 hours to beat the game with 70% side mission completion.... holy fucking terrible
The Division - - Fuck this game was bad
Good ones
Doom
Halo 5
Fallout 4 - Aw, remembered one more good one.
3/10, pretty shit record. I'm an impulse buyer as well, and that's a serious problem. It's just difficult today with most of these games getting outstanding ratings. It honestly does feel like critics are being paid to give good ratings and with users it's just incredibly difficult to tell. You've got half the people who give a 1-3 rating, and the other half giving an 8-10 rating lol. That's how FF/RE both are right now. All positive critic reviews, and yet half the people who play it say it's shit.... seems odd that they'd be so highly reviewed. Then you have to do your best to weed out the trolls, idiots, and just blatantly bad gamers to find about 15-20 (out of hundreds) of reviews actually worth reading. I try to read an equal number of negative as I do positive reviews, and it's also pretty depressing that the negative ones (especially with the RE ones I checked out last night) are generally more concise, coherent, and relevant. Half of the good ratings are just "This game is fucking amazing, if you like games, this game is a game, check it OUT!!!!" . While the negative ones actually go into a full list of pros/cons, analysis etc...
Every other game I've actually enjoyed playing, has either been a F2P game or an old-school game that got put on this gen (RE1, FFX, FF7 etc....)
If you've got some other good titles for me to check out, please let me know. I'm desperate for good games right now. I've been playing through Doom VERY slowly. My kid is having a blast with his lego games and I let him use the Xbox most of the time when I'm not working. It's been great though and I really want to finish it. Halo 5 is still a lot of fun, hit detection is great, lag is minimal, maps are diverse and well thought out, weapon variety is on point and the number of competitive modes is fantastic. Fallout is an incredibly time consuming game, and I don't have a lot of that these days. I'd like to put more time into it, but I generally find myself drifting towards playing on my NES, fucking with Halo for a few rounds, or playing a level of Doom when I find myself with an hour or two to play.
check out horizon zero dawn

have you tried mad max? i got it recently and its a pretrty fun game if your into that type of thing
