Yup. You can buy a media server for $80 that would handle dlna better then the ps4 ever could. I really don't see the need for ps4 to have it.

I use a workaround on an apple TV but on the same TV the TV itself supports dlna and my ps3. If ps4 started supporting dlna it would just be another device on the pile.

If you transcode it a lower bitrate etc and it will stream more at a real-time then buffer.
