How r the newer ff games?
They seem boring to me
Would like to hear someone who is no "fan" and only played 1-2 games of the series
Well I'll give you what you don't want:
10 and 13 are garbage, IMHO as a fan of the series for near 20 years.
I've played all major installments. 4-6 were the cream of the 2D crop (played them on PS1 along with 1-2). 1 was better than 2 IMO, but both of those games are obviously dated.
7/8/9 were all great, and while the graphics outside of battle never held up even back then, the systems/story/world were and still are amazing. 9 was my favorite. Even though they didn't have voice acting, the improved music and models could evince emotion much better throughout the story than anything coming later in this game series. Reading isn't always a bad thing if the alternative is Tidus and Yuna force-laughing. The sidequests and mini-games for all 3 of these games are excellent as well (especially the card games in 8 and 9) and are basically absent moving forward.
12 was a large departure from the traditional FF with combat based on real time encounters. It was very different, but at least it was interesting and the bounty system was IMO an improvement from the one in 10.
Overall from 1-12 there were a good few different types of leveling/job/ability systems. Most were pretty good in their own right. I prefer the equipment ability system found in 9 myself, but I also have a softspot in my heart for Materia from 7.
Back to the 2 sorespots, they are bad for different reasons.
10 is alright as a whole, but it lacked the interesting world/characters from previous installments and got rid of the World Map which is undoubtedly a staple of the FF series. I know that they were trying to modernize it, but seeing the world you are traveling around even if it is rudimentary (2D games) is still more interesting than picking a location name off of a list. This effectively neutered the cool vehicles including airships and the Chocobo/Colored Chocobo Systems found in the PS generation. The voice-acting was abysmal (but it was their first attempt), combat was a variant of ATB, animations were just alright considering this was on PS2. 12, while not perfect, definitely improved on animations from 10. The sequel to 10 should never be mentioned and should die in a fire with it's lack of coherent story ties and abysmal girl power gameplay.
13 and all of its abomination follow-ups are the worst this series has ever been in major installments. There basically was no story, you could talk to almost no one, there were no towns. They continued down the stretch from 10 and further removed everything they could in order to pump up the graphics. They cut away all the good pieces and you were left with a pretty face and a new combat system. People lauded this combat system as well while ignoring the RPG tenets of needing to survive & employing the use of items. Every battle in that game was a slow grind since as you leveled monsters had exponentially more health and you were stuck in the same cycle of Paradigm shifting and auto-attacking to get them to reach Stagger-mode. 10, 12, and 13 also all pretty much shit on the summons from the previous games.
No comment on 15, I haven't played it.
