multiplayer is via signs still for co-op
DaS started a Peer to peer system, but that wasn't very good compared to the server style of Demon's Souls so DaS2 went back to being a server based online

Is dark souls 2 any different from demon souls?
Or is it like the axact same game with a new story?

dark souls itself differed a bit from Demon's
no more mana, instead spells have limited uses that are replenished at bonfires
the world is more open instead of a bunch of separate areas you can pick between
