Oh believe me, my buddy rips me to shreds, and I'm not awful with the mechanics, but definitely nowhere near Master level.
not awful with mechanics at your level of how you understand them, you know how to make something happen on screen but don't really understand how to use that tool or why it exists effectively, i'll use mortal kombat as a good example, Tremor has a string, i think it's 2,1,2? i'm unsure exactly, but anyways this string is +2 on block, but it starts high, highs can be ducked, but part of the games mechanics is you can only duck highs when you aren't blocking (holding the block button in this case) so if you check them with a d1 or d3 to force them to guard, you can now attempt to jail with 212 and use the plus frames after it to mix between another d1/d3 or a throw, if the original d1/d3 hits them, the frame advantage is better than if they block it, technically if they block the d1 they could press their own d1 back in retaliation to stuff the startup frames of 212, but will they? because you could just as easily whiff punish that d1 attempt with 212 into db2+u which is a launcher, and tremor hurts, so most people will realize the situation and just take the block, but if you hit them with the d1, you can jail into 212 with NO fear, whatsoever. so what they should properly do, if they are good enough, is use half their stamina at that moment to backdash after blocking the original d1, if they are quick enough, they will recover to whiff punish 212, but if you have a feeling they will do this, you could run after the d1, to preemptively chase this. and then punish the backdash with 212 directly. this is literally how complicated just a small, minute, almost irrelevant due to how basic it is, situation can be when throughly explored, you will have to deal with this like 40 times a game against a tremor player, since this is a fundamental core of the characters offense.
