Wait so all you did was take out the HDD, put it back in and it wants you to format it?

If that is how the system works what a fucking failure

That's how all removable storage devices work across all devices including a PC.

failure or very user friendly being if you want to swap the hd u just throw one in and it formats it for you?

Well lets say your friend brings his HDD to your house to do whatever he's doing on it. He cant since all the devices will format it.

I don't need my device formatting shit for me. On the PC right click, format.

I just dont see the sense

Without formatting there is no way for the HDD to know how to store files.

The point is that the drive are already formatted to ps3 though

I do think its dumb i cant take it out and put it back in the same machine without formatting.

However i did the format on my small drive (nothing i care about on it) and all the files/ settings were still there. Maybe its jsut needs the update file on a USB to realize it doesnt need an update?

no fucking clue, but im pleased ill probably try the big drive this weekend.

it's probably a thing where it just says it to any drive once it realizes a drive has been removed
then it simply checks to see if needed to format it and goes from there
