Playstation plus is require to play online on ps4. 50$ a year and every month there is free games ( not many atm cause it just came out ). You also get free games on ps3 too, and vita.

free games usually change weekly and a few free games never seem to change/go away
also with PS Plus you get discounts on games ranging from anywhere to 30%-75% off the original price
theres also free/discounted themes and avatars for your consoles
PS Plus also offers you more storage, you can save up to 1 or 2GB of game save data to their online servers, 1 or 2GB, I forget exactly
PS4 requires PlayStation Plus membership to access online features such as Mulitplayer, its like their new way of doing online passes
