Fighter games are like one of the only categories of games that I'm just bad at. I absolutely destroyed everyone I knew at the Soul Caliber series, and then when I finally started playing online with the 3rd one, I realized how horribly outclassed I was. I've never put the time in, but it's just not something that naturally comes to me like most games, and that always frustrates me. I am heavily debating getting this though, a buddy of mine has it and I just want to play with him. I've heard nothing but good things, but just not my genre.
fighting games are one of the absolute most skilled / most difficult games to be good at. very high barriers and skill gaps, this is what makes them good competitively and for fun as well, you see fighting games are a journey,
everybody starts out terrible, even the gods that are good today were once terribly dogshit, it's alot like learning a real martial art, with your character of choice being your style. it's a road you progress along seeking self betterment, theres nothing to blame losses for but yourself in fighting games,
theres always more to learn, a new strategy, new tech, new oki situations, better understanding and situational awareness and reaction to certain things, you can always grow. this knowledge carries over to every game you play since at the fundamental principle, all fighting games are alike mechanically in many ways, frame data, knowledge of neutral / whiff punishment, solid anti airs, just basic fundamentals will carry you a long way in any game. if you want a competitive genre with amazing offline competition everywhere with great people who will help you (it's the most helpful / friendly competitive genre there is period) then fighting games are for you, it's super social, it's a long road so you won't get bored, and the heights once you reach them feel amazing.
DBZF specifically is Skullgirls/GG mixed with DBZ, it's lit. very fun. but can be frustrating too, theres strong tools in this game that are pretty tricky to work around.
