I keep hearing that the PS4 accepts flash drives. I can transfer in game videos from my Ps4 to a usb drive and xfer to PC but thats about it.

I know you cannot play movies via the usb, but what use does it actually have besides transferring gameplay and charging controllers?

Cmon it's sony... Nobody needs more options for usb. Nobody needs more than 640k you know?

You can play media off a USB stick.
You can save data to the USB as well.

Besides being able to save game install data I'm not sure what else you want it to do.

I dont know I was just curious. My tv plays media off usb just fine so I don't care that the Ps4 doesn't. And what media are you playing via the usb ports?

with the ps4 media player u can play like anything from the usb even .mkv files which the ps3 did not support
it should have auto installed already but yeah load it up and u will see the usb or they have the media server option too

I use a media server so I dont use the ports but you can play movies off a USB if you want.

ive played movies and music from my hard drive connected to it

i think movies have to be avi format though? havent done it in a while

mkv actually works, but if it has things like subtitle options, you can't turn them on or anything

Why don't external hard drives work?
