mage had the highest defense by far i had like 1600-1800 def in those times

na, bagis had more def, just mages could get a good amount of resis way easier. in addition, bagis had more HP plus their resistance-buff but I agree, mage def was simply awesome back then. I remember amphetamine having like 3,8k def in the end? was sick.
if you really only had 1600-1800 def, you didnt have a full +9 set or u simply were str-build

i was talking about earily a4 where there was only 2 people i can think of who had full 9 at the time +9 was a rare thing i had been offered 500$ for my 105 +9 weapon and turned it down because it wasnt enough the rest of my set was only +4-5
