A few that I really like on gamepass that aren't a huge time sink / overwhelming
Ori - platformer, fairly easy controls, nice graphics and story. Looks great on a 4k tv.
Dead Cells - platformer/hack n slash, combat system is enjoyable, has roguelike elements where you progress until you can't, die, upgrade, progress further. Very fluid gameplay once you get the hang of it.
Outer Worlds - first person scifi shooter with a deep dialogue system/story. I enjoyed it quite a bit and it didn't take too long to finish.
Subnautica - underwater exploration / survival based game. Focus on exploration, crafting, resource gathering, and base building. Has a few nice jump scares for those afraid of the deep ocean.
Hollow Knight - another 2d platformer, great story, graphics are decent, and the combat and upgrade system is really enjoyable. A touch easy to get lost but manageable. One of my favorites.
Hellblade: Senuas Sacrifice - visual and audio masterpiece, the player suffers from mental illness and the audio plays into this. Best played with headphones. Light combat and more of a puzzle game, reminded me of Myst in a way that it played.
Children of Morta - top down roguelike rpg, multiple classes, good story, pixel graphics but they work well here. Dungeon crawler elements. Was fun.
Slay the Spire - deck building card game with combat elements. Great for a quick pick em up and play.
Undermine - another roguelike, rpg / upgrade elements, explore a mine, dig deeper, upgrade, repeat. Cool little game, top down view, has me hooked currently as it just came out recently.
These are games with low investment as far as time but still satisfying to play. There are other titles I really enjoy (hello Witcher 3, Red Dead Redemption 2) but they are more massive stories and games (albeit great works of art and should be played if you have the time)
Gamepass is an awesome value for me.

destiny 2 - first person shooter with RPG elements
please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you very much for the suggestions :). This is a great starting point and I will give these a look-over Sunday when I have some free time (helping my buddy finish up moving tomorrow).
Have a nice weekend!
