Just download between the dates and they're yours? Or only free to play during those dates?

Download and they're yours. I think you need active Xbox Live Gold to access them though. Could be wrong about that. Not sure, I haven't lapsed on my XBL for over a decade.

They are your's even if it lapses. That's the main diff between gold and plus.
